In many attempts Save Lamu has been using various approaches to lobby against the Lamu coal plant in the hope that investors such as ICBC would pull out including petitions, demonstrations, and other lobbying tactics. ICBC finally withdraws from financing the Lamu coal plant project.
On June 26th 2019 National Environment Tribunal canceled the environmental license issued by National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to Amu Power. Citing lack of public participation and not being able to reach the requirements needed as per the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA)
